Cooking My Way Through Italy

As someone who enjoys cooking, I’m always looking for some new recipes to try and bonus if they are Italian, in the sense that I can find the necessary ingredients here. A few months ago, I came across this blog post titled, There’s No Such Thing As Italian Food and I was intrigued.

Living in Italy means understanding pizza and pasta isn’t the staple diet of everyone in the country. Rather, each region has its specialties. I have become especially familiar with Friuli Venezia Giulia (I don’t think anything is served without a side of polenta here) but I also love a good bolognese, risotto, and of course, pizza (I’m sure there are vegetable dishes on my list of favorites somewhere) and those are all specialties of other regions in Italy.

So I’ve decided to cook my way through the regions, using this article as a sort of guide.

We’ll see how this goes. The article only suggests typical cuisine and doesn’t supply recipes, so I’m on my own to find things to make. Even if they turn out poorly, there is always the pizza place across the street. My first regional attempt is going to focus on FVG and my (personal) mission is to find something without polenta.

Stay tuned…hopefully this will yield delicious results from my kitchen and not regular visits to Pizzeria Half Moon!

  1. I love that image! It’s bringing back lots of very happy memories right now. Canederli in the Dolomites, barolo in Piemonte, artichokes in Rome and of course lots and lots of risotto milanese. Can’t wait to see the results of your cooking adventure! xxx
